Festa del Redentore - the 3rd weekend in July
Festa del Redentore, when a bridge is built across the Guidecca Canal to the Redentore Church. The church was built in gratitude for deliverance of the city from the plague of 1576. The festival is a colourful annual event. Hundreds of people gather in their boats for a picnic on the water. It ends with a spectacular firework display.
